Not receiving emails from a certain person?:

When an email is sent to your email address, it is first sent to our email server. You can think of our email server as the Post Office. The email server holds the mail until you log onto your computer and download it. When an email comes to our email server a few things happen, it checks who the email is going to and who it is from. Our email server then checks the senders ISP against our email filters to see if it is coming from a recognized spammer. If the particular ISP is on one of the "blacklists" a mailer-daemon is created, and the email is sent back. This is one of the ways we keep as much spam out of your inbox as we can.

In some instances innocent people can get caught in this process and be blocked. To explain this you first need to understand how "blacklists" work. There are two ways to identify a computer. First there is the computers IP address. Every computer that logs onto the internet has one, it is like your house address. The second is the ISP (Internet Service Provider) that the sender is using to send the email. The problem with IP addresses, is they can be easily be spoofed or masked so they are incorrect or look like another persons computer. ISP's are much harder to mask which is why "blacklists" target ISP's rather than a particular computers IP address.

As an example, if an SVIdaho.net subscriber decided to start sending spam, and a receiver of these emails reports it. SVIdaho.net as a whole would be added to the "blacklist", not just that particular user. This would mean that no one from SVIdaho.net would be able to send emails to the any ISP using that particular "blacklist" to filter emails. It would then be up to SVIdaho.net to find out why it is on the list and terminate the user that was causing problems.

If someone is having trouble sending you emails, this is most likely the problem. When this occurs, the sender will receive a mailer-daemon explaining the reason that the email could not be delivered. In the text of this mailer-daemon will be the "blacklist" that blocked the email. It is up to the person sending you mail to notify their ISP to be removed from the list. Since these "blacklists" are created by seperate companies from SVIdaho.net we cannot remove any other ISP from the list, it is the sole responsibility of the senders ISP.
